National Semiconductor Introduces High Precision Operational Amplifier

National Semiconductor Corporation has announced five high-precision operational amplifiers that maintain high levels of accuracy in signal conditioning and sensor interface even when gain operation exceeds 6V/V, making them ideal for high accuracy and high gain requirements. The LMP7707 single channel, LMP7708 dual channel, LMP7709 quad channel, LMP7717 single channel and LMP7718 dual channel amplifiers are the latest models of National Semiconductor's PowerWiseTM series of energy efficient chips. The LMP7717 chip has a gain bandwidth of up to 88MHz, but the quiescent current is only 1.15mA, while the LMP7707 chip has a gain bandwidth of only 14MHz, but the quiescent current is as low as 0.715mA. Because these chips have extremely high bandwidth/power ratios, they can increase the energy efficiency of portable electronics to unprecedented levels, helping to further extend battery life. In addition, the LMP7717 and LMP7718 amplifiers are highly accurate enough to support 16-bit or higher data acquisition systems. When designing a high-resolution data acquisition system, the designer generally determines the output of the sensor based on the full-scale input of the analog/digital converter to ensure that the sensitivity of the system is optimized.

These new LMP precision op amps are manufactured using National's proprietary VIP50 BiCMOS process technology.
